The current limits on US dollar transaction on Bank of Maldives (BML)’s credit cards will be significantly increased starting February next year, according to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The decision was announced by President Muizzu in a post on X on Monday afternoon.

According to him, the monthly USD limit on BML’s classic credit cards will be raised from USD 750 to USD 1,400, the limit on gold cards from USD 750 to USD 1,500, and the limit on platinum cards from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.

He said the changes will take effect on February 1, 2026, and were part of “efforts by the government to increase the monthly dollar limit on credit cards.”

While such changes by the BML were previously announced by the bank itself, this has changed in recent months, with President Muizzu taking the initiative to announce many of the bank’s key decisions.

The BML has yet to issue a statement regarding the upcoming changes to credit card limits.
