The Bank of Maldives (BML) opened a self-service banking ATM in Vaadhoo on Monday, marking the beginning of efforts to launch ATM services across all inhabited islands of R. Atoll.
The new ATM was established as part of the “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM" initiative – an initiative that seeks to establish ATM services in all residential islands by the end of this year.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar, BML’s Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and other senior bank officials.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shareef said the BML will be starting ATM services in eight additional islands on Monday.
“We are proud to establish our ATM services in R. Vaadhoo, marking the beginning of our work to establish ATM network across the atoll. Today we will start our ATM services in eight additional Islands, reflecting our commitment to provide accessible banking services in every corner of the country,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, BML broke ground for a new branch in R. Alifushi.
The bank currently has branches located in Ungoofaaru, Dhuvaafaru, and Meedhoo, and the new one in Alifushi will be the bank’s fourth branch in R. Atoll.
“Establishing a new branch in Alifushi represents a significant advancement in expanding our footprint within R. Atoll. The new branch, expected to be completed next year, will bring our full suite of banking services even closer to the community,” said Shareef.
The BML has an extensive network comprising 42 branches across all 20 atolls, 180 self-service banking centers, 238 ATMs, comprehensive agent banking services, and advanced digital banking solutions.
The bank launched an initiative to establish ATMs in all residential islands of the Maldives last year – a project that it expects to wrap up by November.
