There are no obstacles for lawyers to attest educational qualifications, the Bar Council stated on Sunday.

The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has issued a regulation stating that documents issued by the authority will be attested by the authority itself. According to the regulation, the MQA will attest the following documents:

  • Qualification Recognition and Validation (local and international)

  • Qualification Assessment

  • Recognition of the Intended Program

  • Second Copy of a Validated Qualification

  • Form 1 and Form 2 responses

As a result, applicants can apply for jobs without obtaining attestation from any other party for documents issued by the MQA.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Bar Council clarified that the MQA’s regulation pertains to the authority’s procedure for attesting copies of educational certificates.

Therefore, there is no obstacle to lawyers affixing attestations of authenticity to documents, including educational certificates and certificates issued by official bodies, in accordance with the Legal Profession Act, the Bar Council stated.
