The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is set to honor every player who has represented the national football team since its establishment in 1979 and participation in the Indian Ocean Island Games.
This initiative is part of the 'Alimas (Diamond) Jubilee' celebrations, marking 75 years of Maldivian football.
The announcement was made by Ali Suzain, chairman of a special committee overseeing the Diamond Jubilee activities, during a press conference. Suzain emphasized the importance of acknowledging all contributors, noting that some players from the past 46 years may not be widely recognized.
The Diamond Jubilee committee, elected by football clubs, is chaired by Suzain and vice-chaired by New Radiant Chairman Ahmed Mubeen. Other members include Valencia Chairman Abdullah Azmeen and Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
In addition to honoring players, FAM will also recognize the service of all national team captains. The committee has also decided to select a "football personality" from each island in the Maldives as part of the celebrations.
