The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced a nation-wide ban on the import, sale, and use of "Cofsy Syrup".
This measure follows the detection of quality issues with the cough medicine, a widely prescribed treatment.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the MFDA affirmed that ongoing efforts to guarantee the safety and quality of pharmaceutical products entering the Maldives led to the identification of problems with Cofsy Syrup through testing. Consequently, the authority has implemented an immediate ban on the drug's circulation as of Wednesday.
The MFDA is actively engaged in market surveillance of commonly used medications within the Maldives to safeguard consumer well-being. Pharmacies and other establishments possessing Cofsy Syrup are instructed to dispose of the product in accordance with established procedures.
The MFDA further urged the public to adhere to relevant standards for the transportation and storage of medications to ensure their integrity and safety. For additional information or inquiries, consumers and the public are advised to contact the MFDA hotline at 7200321.
It is noteworthy that the MFDA has previously issued bans on the import and sale of certain varieties of Cofsy Syrup due to similar quality concerns. Cofsy Syrup is manufactured in India by MMC Healthcare Ltd.
