The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure announced on Wednesday that the draw date for recipients of the previous government's Gedhoruveriyaa scheme who scored above 76 marks but did not receive flats will be made public.

This decision comes after 301 individuals with scores above 76 points were not allocated flats in the previous lottery, while 315 people who scored 75 marks received their flats. As a result, the Housing Ministry has now announced that it will conduct a re-draw for those who received 76 points or more and were not initially included.

The ministry confirmed that flats will be allocated to these individuals under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, with the specific draw date to be announced soon.

In cases where couples applied separately and both qualified for a flat, the ministry stated that only one flat will be allocated per couple. These couples are being notified via the Gedhoruveriya portal and provided with instructions. They are required to sign and submit a "Declaration of Vacation of Flat" through the portal within five official days, along with submitting the original notarized document and notary public certificate to the Ministry's counter. Subsequently, the affidavit must be submitted to the portal and approved after logging in with either spouse's e-pass.

The Housing Ministry on Wednesday filed a formal request with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as well, asking for a criminal investigation into the decision to allocate Gedhoruveriyaa flats to 315 applicants who scored 75 points, before allocating units first to those who scored 76 points and above.

Former Housing Ministry State Minister Akram Kamaluddin, who was responsible for flat and land allocation in the previous government, stated that the previous government's policy clearly stipulated that if a couple applied separately for the Gedhoruveriya scheme and both qualified, they would be granted a single flat. He asserted that lists were created to identify such couples and reserve one flat for each.

The controversy surrounding the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme dates back to November 2023, when President Solih's government released a provisional list of 4,000 flat recipients, followed by a permanent list. The ACC later halted the flat handover due to concerns that the initial list favored specific groups. The current government reviewed the list and released a new version in February, more than a year later. Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has since confirmed that apartments would be allocated based on the permanent list established by the previous government.
