Rough seas prevail in the Maldives as Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a yellow alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Kaafu Atoll.
The yellow alert warning of strong winds and rough seas is in effect from 7:30am to 13:30pm on Tuesday.
According to Met Office, the region can expect strong winds of 25 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour with gusts of 50 miles per hour and very rough seas during the duration of the yellow alert.
A white alert has also been issued from Alifu Alifu Atoll to Laamu Atoll.
The white alert, in effect from 7:30am to 13:30pm, warns of strong winds of 19 miles per hour to 24 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour.
Meanwhile, southern atolls can expect winds of 10 miles per hour to 20 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour.
Rough seas are expected across all Maldivian regions with wave heights ranging between five feet to seven feet.
The bad weather spell Maldives is currently experiencing coincides with the school holidays. As such, many people are expected to travel via sea and air. Nevertheless, authorities have urged against unessential sea travel, especially during yellow and orange alerts.
