Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has stated that while the Maldivian regions are not expected to experience swell waves, they may still be affected by wind waves during periods of strong winds.
Met Office told Sun on Wednesday that all regions of the Maldives are expected to experience rainfall today and continue until noon tomorrow.
Wind speeds in the central provinces will range between 13 and 23 miles per hour. In the southern provinces, winds are expected to range from 8 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph in showers.
“There will be no swell waves, however, because the winds are so strong, there will be wind waves. The weather is not good, however, there will be a break on Friday,” Met Office said.
Met Office further said northern and central Maldivian regions will experience rough seas while southern regions will experience mildly rough seas which will exacerbate during showers.
Wave height northern and central Maldivian regions will range between four feet to seven feet while wave height in southern regions will range between three feet to five feet.
Met Office has issued a white alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll from 7:00am to 13:00pm, warning of strong winds and rough seas.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), on Tuesday night, urged against any unessential sea travel as bad weather conditions will prevail over the Maldives in the next two days.
