A decorative arch situated on the highway leading to Velana International Airport (VIA) collapsed this afternoon during the inclement weather experienced in Malé city on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson, when contacted by Sun, confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 1330 hours, attributing the collapse of the decorative arch on the airport road to strong winds.

No injuries were sustained, and no vehicles were damaged in the incident, according to the official statement.

Subsequently, police and MACL employees successfully removed the fallen structure. The road was reopened to traffic shortly after the collapse.

A video of the incident has been circulated on social media. It is believed that the arch was erected in anticipation of the new terminal's opening ceremony.

Adverse weather conditions are forecasted for the next two days.

Consequently, the Meteorological Office has advised caution during sea travel.

The Meteorological Office further stated that while northern atolls are expected to experience lighter winds from Tuesday and Wednesday, central atolls will observe calmer conditions commencing Friday. Therefore, the MNDF has cautioned seafarers to exercise prudence during the prevailing adverse weather.
