Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed his commitment to boosting Maldives-China relations on Saturday, in a congratulatory message to Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on occasion of the island nation’s 60th Independence Day.
In his message, President Xi extended sincere congratulations and best wishes to the government and people of the Maldives on behalf of the government and people of China.
He emphasized that Maldives and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges, one that sets a good example of equal treatment and mutual assistance and benefit between countries of different sizes.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, China-Maldives relations have maintained healthy and stable development, setting a good example of equal treatment, mutual assistance and mutual benefit between countries of different sizes,” he said.
President Xi also highlighted on President Muizzu’s state visit to China in January 2024, describing it as a successful visit during which the two leaders had cordial and friendly exchanges and reached a broad consensus.
He said that he attaches great importance to the development of the ties between the two countries.
“I attach great importance to the development of China-Maldives relations, and would like to work together with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to continuously promote the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and jointly build a China-Maldives community with a shared future,” he said.
Chinese Foreign Minister and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi, also sent a separate message to Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel congratulations on Maldives’ 60th Independence Day.
