The Bank of Maldives (BML) is proud to introduce the ENV POS, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Maldivian banking sector.
Under the initiative, every transaction made through a BML Point of Sale (POS) terminal, the bank will set aside a contribution from its earnings to fund environmental initiatives across the country - at no cost to the customer or the merchant.
From July 1, 2025 onward, every time customers tap or swipe their cards for payments on ENV POS terminals, they will be directly contributing to saving the Maldives' environment, protecting its islands and oceans, and ensuring a greener Maldives for generations to come, affirmed the bank.
"Based on current usage, the Bank is expected to contribute MVR 5.5 million every year through ENV POS. This will continue to grow as the number of transactions grow," said Mohamed Shareef, the Managing Director and CEO of the bank.
"This is not a one-off campaign but a long-term, sustained effort that will scale with our customers' support. Today, I call on every individual to make your everyday purchase a force for good. Whether you are buying groceries or paying for a meal - choose to pay with BML to make a real, measurable difference."
The ENV POS funds will be used in collaboration with NGOs and partners to support sustainable projects that would include recycling, reforestation, and waste management.
BML adds that it remains dedicated to supporting communities, fostering economic growth, and driving sustainable initiatives across the Maldives.
