The Indian teacher who is accused of twisting and dislocating an 11-year-old male student’s finger at Th. Kandoodhoo School has been arrested.
Police said the teacher was arrested under a court order on Tuesday morning.
Speaking with Sun, the student’s father, the teacher was struck by a water bottle belonging to his son during interval period on Monday morning.
According to the father, the teacher came and grabbed his son’s finger and twisted it after this, which led to his finger being dislocated from the joint. The father said the teacher relocated the joint at the moment and paid no further attention to his son.
The father alleged that the teacher did not inform of the incident to any relevant figures from the school.
The father said he learned of his son’s injury from his class teacher who contacted him as his son was crying due to pain.
The student was first treated at Kandoodhoo Health Centre and later transferred to Thaa Atoll Hospital in Veymandoo for further treatment. The father noted that police officers were present at Thaa Atoll Hospital.
Upon returning back to Kandoodhoo, the father said they learned the school had sent the teacher who assaulted his son to Omadhoo.
However, Kandoodhoo Council President Ahmed Reehan said the teacher traveled to Omadhoo on the day of the incident but was later brought to Veymandoo by the Police.
Education Ministry has yet to comment on the case.
