A man acquitted in a knife attack in Addu City that left a person injured with nearly a dozen stab wounds has been fined by a local magistrate court in a separate case involving public disorder.

Ahmed Looth, Shabnamee Villa, S. Feydhoo, was charged with disorderly conduct under Section 615 of the Penal Code over an incident that took place last year.

The charge carries a standard sentence of one month and six days in prison.

The Feydhoo Magistrate Court found him guilty of the charge, but converted the prison sentence to a fine of MVR 5,400 under sections 1002 and 1006 of the Penal Code.

He was ordered to settle the fine within two months.

Looth was one of three men charged in a stabbing that took place outside the Maldivian office in Gan on April 17, 2020. The attack left the victim with 11 three-inch stab wounds on his back.

However, Looth was acquitted in the case.
