Heavy rain has caused flooding in many parts of Male' City on Wednesday, as the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) issued a yellow alert for Kaafu to Laamu Atoll from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The alert was later changed to an orange alert from Vaavu atoll to Kaafu, where MET warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds reaching up to 45 mph.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the public to remain vigilant, noting that heavy rain is expected over the next 24 hours. Residents have been advised to place sandbags at entry points, raise household items to higher ground, secure belongings, and switch off unused electrical appliances. NDMA also reminded the public to keep valuables in safe, elevated places and to call 911 in case of emergencies.
Seafarers have been advised to pay close attention to weather conditions, avoid travel without notifying authorities, and ensure vessels are equipped with lifejackets, communication devices and bilge pumps. Passengers have been urged not to overload cargo vessels, safeguard licences and wear lifejackets.
Authorities have also advised diving and water-sports operators to exercise caution and avoid sea travel during yellow or orange warnings issued by the MET Office.
