Three youths arrested with nearly two kilograms of suspected drugs and 230 vape cartridges have been remanded in custody for another 10 days by the Criminal Court.

The three were arrested on September 3 in an operation that recovered 1.7 kilograms of suspected drugs, 230 vape cartridges, 26 bottles of vape flavour, and one bottle of liquor. Following their initial arrest, Maryam Isha Ashraf and Hussain Shavin were remanded for 15 days, while Mohamed Nahil was remanded for five days. Nahil’s remand expired on August 8, after which he was remanded for 10 additional days. On August 19, the court extended the remand of all three for 30 days.

On Sunday, the Criminal Court ordered a further 10-day extension.

According to the court order, the trio were arrested after evidence was submitted indicating their involvement in possession, use and trafficking of drugs. The order cites police statements from the scene, SOCO findings, investigation statements, and urine test results. The court noted that a large quantity of drugs was recovered from the apartment and that all three tested positive for drugs.

The court order for Nahil and Isha states that the apartment where the drugs were found was not their residence. The arrest warrants for Isha and Shavin note that both have prior arrest and detention records. Shavin denied the charges, and all three requested conditional remand.
