The Islamic Ministry, in collaboration with Ooredoo Maldives, has launched ‘Oordeoo Masjidhuna’; a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting the renovation, maintenance and improvement of mosques across the Maldives ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The initiative was formally launched on Thursday during a joint press conference the Islamic Ministry and Ooredoo.

According to the Islamic Ministry, the initiative reflects a joint commitment to strengthening religious infrastructure and supporting the needs of local communities.

Under the Masjidhuna initiative, Ooredoo aims to support the renovation of five mosques annually across different regions of the country, with improvement works scheduled for completion ahead of Ramadan each year.

The program seeks to ensure that mosques remain well-maintained, accessible and welcoming environments for worshippers during the holy month.

According to the Islamic Ministry, renovation activities will primarily focus on essential maintenance and minor improvements, including repainting walls, repairing damaged tiles, fixing doors and windows, upgrading lighting and addressing other basic maintenance requirements to enhance the overall condition and functionality of mosque facilities.

With the endorsement and coordination of the Islamic Ministry, mosques requiring renovation will be identified based on community needs, ensuring that improvement works are aligned with relevant national standards and local priorities.

The Islamic Ministry states that the Masjidhuna initiative reflects its continued efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships in advancing Islamic infrastructure development across the Maldives.

Through this collaboration, the ministry and Ooredoo aim to support the sustainable upkeep of mosques while contributing to the wellbeing of communities and enhancing facilities for worshippers throughout the country.
