Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed, on Tuesday, stated that the construction of two parking buildings designed to alleviate the parking issues in the capital, Malé, will be completed by November next year.
Providing details during a press conference at the President’s Office this morning, the Minister noted that the President has decided to construct a specialized parking facility at the Heenaamaage parking zone. He added that designs are currently being finalized with the contractor.
The second parking structure will be located on the vacant plot adjacent to the Maldives National University’s Business School. This site is already being utilized for vehicle parking.
“We have nearly completed the final stage of this work yesterday and are expecting [the project to be] officially awarded to the contractor shortly, with a target completion date for both buildings before November of next year," the Minister said.
He emphasized that once these two buildings are operational, they will provide unprecedented solutions to the long-standing parking challenges in Malé.
Notably, the President previously announced that work on two specialized parking buildings in Malé would commence this year. Speaking on the government podcast "The Pulse" in mid-July, the President explained that the projects were initially delayed to explore potential foreign funding. However, the administration decided to proceed this year with at least two buildings rather than wait for foreign aid.
