The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the tourism sector.

The MoU was signed by Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen and Youth Minister Abdullah Rafiu. Describing the agreement as an important milestone, Ameen said its core objective is to open structured pathways for Maldivian youth to train in key areas of the tourism industry. He noted that Maldives’ tourism sector operates at one of the highest standards in the world, with numerous training programmes already available across resorts and hospitality institutions.

“Therefore, we are working together to create more opportunities for youth. The main purpose of this is to provide opportunities to the youth,” Ameen said. He added that the initiative will help increase Maldivian participation in the tourism workforce.

Ameen said the decision aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to familiarize young people with work and expand employment opportunities for them. The apprenticeships will be offered under the National Apprenticeship Programme, which provides students with hands-on training, experience and mentorship from industry experts. The programme has already begun offering placements in the tourism sector.
