Applications open for fourth Marine Hatchery Skills Development Program at Maniyafushi

Applications have opened for the fourth course of the Marine Hatchery Skills Development Program.

The program is conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources and the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI), in collaboration with the World Bank-assisted TRANSFORM Project, to teach technical skills and build capacity among those interested in fish farming and mariculture.

The basic mariculture course will be held from October 31, 2026 to November 12 ,2026 at the K. Maniyafushi Research and Training Facility, the country’s main mariculture research island. The 14-day technical training program will accommodate 15 participants.

Course modules include: aquaculture systems; live-feed production; hatchery and nursery production of small grouper, sea cucumbers and clownfish; pearl-oyster reproduction; seaweed-cultivation theory; disease identification and prevention; and environmental protection in aquaculture.

Applications are open until 14:00 on Thursday, 18 October. Forms must be submitted to MMRI with a copy of the national ID card, either in person or via email to [email protected]. If applications exceed 15, participants will be selected in the order received.

Participants will stay on Maniyafushi for the full duration of the course. MMRI will arrange travel between Male' and Maniyafushi.
