To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (Gandhi Jayanti) and honor the contributions of India’s former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, the High Commission of India in the Maldives organized a special run in Malé today.

Held under the theme "India runs for Viksit Bharat," the High Commissioner joined over 350 members of the Indian diaspora residing in the Maldives in the run.

The High Commission stated that the High Commissioner expressed appreciation for the diaspora’s strong connection to their homeland. He also underscored the vital role played by overseas Indians in the nation’s journey toward becoming a developed country (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

Furthermore, paying homage to the enduring legacies of Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu) and Shastri ji, the High Commission noted that Gandhiji’s vision of peace, non-violence, and Sarvodaya (progress for all) continues to guide their shared journey towards inclusive development.

Every year, October 2nd marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian independence movement. Globally observed as the International Day of Non-Violence, Indian diplomatic missions around the world hold commemorative events annually to mark the occasion.
