The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) on Thursday launched the Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS), a centralized digital platform designed to support guesthouses and other tourism businesses that do not have their own property management systems.
The system will allow these establishments to manage and submit tourist information more efficiently.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer said MGIS consolidates guest information into a single view and directly links it with state financial institutions. He noted that tourism is the backbone of the Maldivian economy and that data from this sector is used by multiple government agencies for planning, regulation and revenue administration.
Zareer said MGIS is part of the President’s initiative to strengthen state administration through modern technology. He described the system as a major step toward automating reporting under the Maldives 2.0 digital vision and MIRA’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. He also urged MIRA to continue working toward an effortless tax system and to lead the country’s digitalisation efforts. The minister thanked the Controller General of Immigration, Commissioner of Police (Retd) Ahmed Faseeh and MIRA staff for their contributions to the project.

With MGIS, tourist information will be shared among government agencies through a unified platform. MIRA said the system will be integrated with the Imuga portal in the future. Once implemented, the integration with guest management systems used by tourism service providers will eliminate manual data entry.
All individuals and entities registered for Green Tax will be required to submit guest information through MGIS. The data will also be shared with the Ministry of Tourism. MIRA has divided onboarding into two phases: resorts, hotels and guesthouses with more than 50 beds must begin reporting through MGIS from January 1 next month, while all remaining Green Tax registrants must start reporting from January 1 next year.
