Children’s gesture toward road workers draws praise across Male' city

A group of children in Male' have set an upstanding example of kindness after handing out juice to workers repairing Ameenee Magu on Tuesday afternoon.

It is common to see workers labouring under the hot sun across the city, often unnoticed by passers-by. But in the middle of the day’s heat, these children paused to acknowledge them.

A video posted on Facebook by user Mohamed Auzam shows Male’ City Council workers repairing the road behind the old power plant, while children approach them one by one with cups of juice. In the alleyway of a nearby house, two women are seen pouring juice from a jug into the cups the children carry.

With each child holding out a cup, the workers smile warmly, accepting the drink with quiet gratitude.

Auzam described the moment as a heart-warming scene, noting that the children not only offered water and juice, but also treated the workers with dignity and respect. He said the gesture appreciated people who build roads and essential infrastructure in the city, yet often remain unseen and unacknowledged.

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim also shared the video, expressing his appreciation. He said the children had shown that caring, helping and kindness must come first in efforts to make Male' a better place. The Mayor added that the compassion demonstrated by the young generation should be exemplified by everyone.

The video has since drawn widespread praise, with many expressing happiness and renewed hope in the values of the growing generation, and in the future of Maldivian society.
