Mosque to be built in Hulhumale’ Phase II in Sheikh Fareed’s honor

Islamic Ministry and non-governmental organization, Khidhumaiy, signed an agreement on Monday to construct a mosque in Hulhumalé Phase II in memory of late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed, who passed away on June 9, 2025.

While the agreement was signed on Monday, the Ministry has yet to disclose specific details regarding the mosque’s design or planned capacity.

In a video shared on Khidhumaiy NGO’s social media page, Sheikh Fareed’s son, Abdulla Fareed, said the mosque is intended to serve as a hub for various religious activities. He said physical work on the project is expected to begin shortly. He added that updates on the progress of the project would be shared through the NGO’s official channels and noted that opportunities for public donations remain open.

He also expressed gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the mosque project so far.

Sheikh Fareed passed away suddenly on June 9 last year while at an airport in Malaysia. He had traveled to the country to participate in an Islamic Dawah conference.

Notably, Khidhumaiy NGO previously inaugurated a mosque in Bangladesh with a capacity of 455 worshippers in memory of Sheikh Fareed. During the fundraising campaign for the project, the estimated MVR 760,000 required for its construction was raised within a very short period.
