West Park area to close tonight as MTCC begins third phase of ring road development

The West Park area along Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be closed on Monday evening as the third phase of the ring road widening and paving project begins.

According to a notice issued by MTCC, one half of the road will be closed from 12:00 pm tonight to prepare the site for the next phase of works. The remaining half will remain open for public transport. MTCC apologized for any inconvenience caused to road users.

The first phase of the project, launched in August last year, paved the stretch from the fish market to Republic Square. The second phase expanded the area from the fish market to the North Harbor.

Speaking on the President’s Office “The Pulse” podcast, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the development of the most damaged section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the MPL area, will begin very soon. He said the area will be rebuilt while the commercial port is relocated to Thilafushi, providing a long-term solution to congestion and safety concerns.

President Muizzu has stated that the port will be fully relocated to Thilafushi by November 11, 2027.
