President welcomes Malaysia’s Prime Minister at VIA as two-day state visit begins

For a bilateral visit, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Maldives this Monday evening, to strengthen ties between Maldives and Malaysia.

Prime Minister Anwar was welcomed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at Velana International Airport (VIA). A cultural performance by school children was held at the airport as part of the official welcome.

Prime Minister Anwar will hold official talks with President Muizzu on Tuesday. The two leaders will exchange views on key regional and international issues during the meeting. In addition, they will witness the signing of MoUs in several key areas to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam are scheduled to pay separate courtesy calls on the Prime Minister.

The 58th anniversary of the establishment of political relations between Maldives and Malaysia has been marked by strong ties between the two countries and their peoples, regular high-level engagements, and a lasting close friendship across various areas of development.
