Late Ahmed Mahreen recognised as one of three recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award of the Engineers Award 2026, an honour recognising Maldivian engineers and professionals who have contributed to national development, has been presented to three distinguished figures, including two honoured posthumously.

The first-ever Engineering Awards in Maldives were officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who also conferred the awards.

One of the recipients was the late Ahmed Mahureen, recognised for more than 40 years of service to the Maldives, including his contributions to engineering, aviation development, and major infrastructure projects across the country. The award was accepted on his behalf by his eldest daughter.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to Abdul Shakoor Solih, former Managing Director of STELCO, in recognition of his nearly 50 years of service to the electricity sector.

The Engineers’ Awards 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Abdul Shakoor Salih.

His path runs from mechanical engineering practice to the leadership of STELCO.

Another posthumous recipient was the late Mohamed Rasheed, former Chairman and CEO of STELCO, honoured for over 50 years of service to the electricity sector. His award was accepted by his son.

President Muizzu initiated the Engineers Award and the commemorative Engineers Day as part of his efforts to recognise the contributions of Maldivian engineers and strengthen the profession.

The President is himself a civil engineer by training. He completed his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds in 2009, with a thesis titled “Thermal and time-dependent effects on monolithic reinforced concrete roof slab-wall joints.”
