Ahmed Shaheer has been appointed as the chairman of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), mere days after he was dismissed from the same role at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirms Shaheer was appointed as the chairman and member of the board of directors of the MTDC on Monday.

The new appointment comes after Shaheer was dismissed from the role of chairperson of HDC on Thursday – a role he had been serving since May 2025.

Shaheer had originally served during the incumbent administration as chairperson of Fenaka Corporation. However, he was dismissed from the role in August 2024.

Shaheer had previously served at the State Trading Organization (STO), moving up from the position of head of procurement to the company’s managing director.

He replaces Abdulla Faiz, who had served as chairperson of MTDC since 2017. However, he was dismissed from the role last week and appointed as chairperson of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).
