Ahmed Niyaz has been dismissed from the role of managing director and board member of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed Niyaz was dismissed on Thursday, but provided no explanation for the decision.

Niyaz, who holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK, had been a pivotal figure since the inception of MTDC back in 2007.

He was appointed as the managing director of MTDC in November 2023, prior to which he served as the corporation’s deputy managing director, board director, and operations and development manager.

Niyaz also served as chairperson of several other state-owned enterprises, including Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and State Trading Organization (STO).
