Judge Mahir retires after 20 years of service

High Court Judge Ibrahim Mahir retired with honor on Sunday after over two decades of judgeship.

Mahir had applied for retirement back in August.

The High Court confirmed his resignation via its social media handles on Sunday morning, and thanked him for his services.

However, the exact reason why Mahir, who was appointed to the High Court last September, decided to retire remains unclear.

Mahir began his career as a judge on November 9, 2005, at the Civil Court. He was transferred to the Family Court on May 23, 2010, and later appointed the court’s chief judge on October 13, 2012.

He was appointed to the High Court last September.

Mahir’s judgeship spans over two decades at various courts.

Mahir’s retirement reduces the number of judges at the High Court from the legally required 11 to 10. However, the government is reportedly working on amending the law to change the size of the High Court’s bench.
