Judge Mahir set to retire after 20 years of service

High Court Judge Ibrahim Mahir is set to retire next month after over two decades of judgeship.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has reportedly accepted his retirement application, and is set to formally grant him an honorable retirement next month.

However, the exact reason why Mahir, who was appointed to the High Court last September, decided to retire is unclear at this point.

Mahir began his career as a judge on November 9, 2005, at the Civil Court. He was transferred to the Family Court on May 23, 2010, and later appointed the court’s chief judge on October 13, 2012.

He was appointed to the High Court last September.

Mahir’s judgeship spans over two decades at various courts.

Mahir’s retirement will decrease the number of judges at the High Court from the legally required 11 to 10. However, the government is reportedly working on amending the law to change the size of the High Court’s bench.
