After 35 years of service in the education sector, Kalaafaanu School Principal Nazleen Wafir has decided to retire.
She will retire on August 31 this year, with her last working day falling next Monday.
Nazleen told Sun that she decided to retire for family reasons. After graduating from Aminiya School, she entered the field of education after studying at the Faculty of Education. She began her career as a Grade 1 primary teacher at Jamaluddin School. After teaching there for six years, she transferred to Kalaafaanu School.
Nazleen has served as a principal for 17 years, rendering valuable service at both Aminiya School and Kalaafaanu School.
After teaching in Male', Nazleen pursued further education in Singapore. Her highest qualification is a Master’s degree from the University of Nottingham’s Malaysia campus.
Speaking about the changes in the Maldivian education system, Nazleen noted that when she started working, there were only two primary schools in the city, Jamaluddin School and Iskandhar School. She said all schools now teach Grades 1 to 10.
“Therefore, great opportunities are being established in schools,” Nazleen said.
Nazleen’s service was celebrated at Kalaafaanu School on Thursday.
