Applications open for Riveli Awards

The Ministry of Health, Family, and Welfare has opened applications for the Riveli Awards 2026, a national initiative aimed at recognizing the achievements of persons with disabilities and the contributions of individuals and organizations working to promote their welfare.

The awards seek to celebrate the accomplishments of persons with disabilities while acknowledging the efforts of those dedicated to supporting their empowerment and inclusion.

The Riveli Awards form part of the government's "Caring Society" policy, which focuses on safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities, providing financial assistance, and creating socio-economic opportunities in accordance with national legislation.

According to the Ministry, the awards are expected to raise public awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities while promoting greater independence and inclusion within society.

The Riveli Awards will be presented across six categories:

• Persons with disabilities.
• Persons with disabilities who have brought pride and distinction to the Maldives.
• Education services (government and private institutions).
• Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing dedicated services.
• Technical and individual support services.
• Companies contributing to the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Application forms and guidelines are available at the Ministry of Health, Family, and Welfare, as well as Family and Children Service Centres (FCSCs) across the atolls. Forms can also be downloaded from the Ministry's official website. Completed applications may be submitted in person at the Ministry's counter or via email at [email protected].

The deadline for submitting applications is 13:00pm on Sunday, August 30.

The government expects the awards to highlight the capabilities and achievements of persons with disabilities while contributing to efforts to reduce social discrimination.

First introduced in 2016, the Riveli Awards are presented through a collaboration between the President's Office and the relevant ministry to encourage and recognize persons with disabilities. The awards were subsequently held in 2019 and 2021.
