The police say they are looking for Anwar Ibrahim, a senior official from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), famous for serving as master of ceremonies in gatherings held by the main opposition party, for allegedly evading summons to appear before the Civil Court.

Anwar, 59, serves as the president of Thimafarushi constituency in the MDP national council.

The police announced on Sunday that they are looking for Anwar in response to a warrant issued by the Civil Court seeking to have him produced before the court under police custody for failure to attend hearings in a case lodged with the court.
