Deputy fisheries minister sacked amid fraud probe

Mohamed Yaseen has been dismissed from his role as deputy minister at the Fisheries Ministry amid allegations he defrauded multiple people out of money.

Chief government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) confirmed Yaseen’s dismissal in the case on Saturday.

When questioned regarding the case, a police spokesperson said the agency was investigating a case involving an individual accused of defrauding multiple people out of money by promising to arrange flats and land plots for them.

The police declined to provide any details.

Yaseen was appointed as a deputy minister at the Fisheries Ministry on January 24, 2024.

Yaseen remains listed in the Fisheries Ministry website as a deputy minister. According to the information on the website, the ministry has 25 deputy ministers and state ministers.
