Two children rescued from drowning off the northern beach of A.A. Himandhoo

Two children under the age of 18 were rescued from drowning while swimming near the northern beach of A.A. Himandhoo.

The incident was reported by a woman from the island. Police responded immediately and, upon arriving at the scene, found two children struggling in the water about 100 metres from the beach.

Police Constable Ibrahim Nabeeh and island resident Mohamed Ahil of Dhilasa/Himandhoo jumped into the sea without hesitation and swam towards the children in distress. The 11-year-old and 12-year-old were safely rescued.

 

Two other Himandhoo residents also assisted in the rescue, helping bring the children back to shore.

Police said the children had swallowed some seawater during the incident, but their condition is not serious.

Police have advised the public to exercise caution while swimming and to ensure that children are taken to the beach under adult supervision.
