Duo arrested in one-kilo drug bust confess at court

A man and woman arrested with over one kilo of drugs from an apartment in Male’ confessed at court on Wednesday, as they were presented before a judge for their remand hearing.

Maasha Ibrahim, 38, Gulalaage, L. Dhanbidhoo; and Mohamed Umair, 58, G. Moonlight View, K. Male’, were arrested from the latter’s apartment in Male’ City on Tuesday, in a counter-narcotics operation conducted by Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics.

The police said they found over one kilo of drugs and a large sum of cash from the apartment.

Both Maasha and Umair, who are accused of use, possession and trafficking of narcotics, were presented before a judge on Wednesday for their remand hearing.

The court remanded them both in custody of the police for 15 days.

Court documents show that the apartment from which the drugs were found was Umair’s place of residence.

Both Maasha and Umair claimed ownership of the drugs, and admitted to possession of money made from the sale of drugs.

Meanwhile, Umair also tested positive for drugs.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
