Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security aimed at strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and enhancing efforts to combat transnational crime.
The agreement with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a division operating under the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was formalized during a special ceremony held at Iskandar Building.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldives Police Service, while Regional Attaché Earl Mattia represented Homeland Security Investigations. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both institutions.
The agreement is primarily intended to strengthen collaboration between the two agencies in the prevention, detection, and investigation of transnational criminal activities.
Under the terms of the MoU, both parties will conduct high-level consultations, facilitate the exchange of critical information, and cooperate across a range of operational areas.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the agreement is expected to make a significant contribution to maintaining public safety and security in the Maldives while enhancing the country's investigative capabilities.
The Police further noted that the partnership will support ongoing efforts to prevent and disrupt cross-border criminal activities and strengthen responses to emerging security threats.
