Woman arrested for assaulting a police officer

A woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The suspect has been identified as a 34-year-old woman from Laamu Atoll.

At court, the Police said the incident occurred when an officer responded to a scene following reports of an altercation. The suspect is alleged to have hit an officer who attended to the scene.

Criminal Court, on Thursday, ordered the woman to be remanded in custody for 10 days. The court order stated that sufficient preliminary evidence had been presented to substantiate the allegations against her.

During the proceedings, the suspect exercised her right to remain silent and stated only that she wished to appoint legal representation.

According to the remand order, the suspect has a prior criminal record and a history of previous arrests.
