Maldives has strongly condemned the recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian areas and vital infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In an official statement on Wednesday, the Maldivian government described the attacks as a blatant violation of UAE’s sovereignty and a serious threat to regional security and stability in the Middle East.

The Maldivian government reaffirmed its full solidarity with both the government and the people of the UAE while expressing its unwavering support for all measures undertaken by the UAE to protect its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

In recent months, multiple attacks have targeted oil facilities and commercial vessels in the UAE. Reports indicate that the country’s defense systems have intercepted and neutralized 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones. The international community has raised increasing concern over the potential loss of civilian lives and property resulting from such attacks. In particular, assaults on commercial shipping present a serious challenge to global economic stability.

Underscoring the importance of a peaceful resolution, the Maldivian government called on all parties to exercise restraint and to take steps to prevent further escalation of tensions. It urged enhanced dialogue and diplomatic engagement to reduce hostilities and preserve regional stability, noting that such efforts are essential for global economic security.

Reflecting the close bilateral relationship between the two countries, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held a telephone conversation with UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to discuss regional security following the escalation of hostilities. During the call, President Muizzu condemned the attacks and reaffirmed that the Maldives stands firmly in support of the UAE.
