The Islamic Ministry on Sunday began distributing 50 tons of dates donated to the Maldives by the Saudi government.
The donation was made by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) on April 16.
The Islamic Ministry states that dates will be distributed at the rate of one packet per household until the allocation for each island, which is calculated at the rate of 50 packets per 100 household, runs out.
The distribution of dates in the greater Male’ area will be carried out under the ministry’s direct supervision at the Islamic Center’s hall.
It can be collected from the venue between 09:30 am and 01:00 pm until May 14.
In Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’, dates will be distributed to households after checking the address, the electricity meter number, and the national identity card of the person collecting it.
Each individual can collect dates for up to five electricity meters.
Meanwhile, distribution of dates in other islands and cities will be carried out through respective local councils.
Islamic Ministry describes the donation of dates as a symbol of the close ties between Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
