Ashfan transferred to Sports Ministry after nearly two decades at Immigration

Ahmed Ashfan has been removed from his position as Deputy Controller General of Immigration, and appointed as a deputy minister at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness.

Maldives Immigration confirmed his exit from the agency in a post on X on Thursday.

“His professionalism, integrity, and commitment have left a lasting impact. Wishing him continued success in his future endeavors,” reads the post.

Ashfan’s career at Maldives Immigration spans over 18 years, during which time he moved up the ranks to the second highest position within the agency. He had been serving as the Deputy Controller General of Immigration since April 2024.

Ashfan is most well-known for his illustrious footballing career. A defender at the national football team, both Ashfan and his brother Ali Ashfaq were part of the squad that won Maldives the SAFF Championship in 2008.
