Government reconstitutes ministerial committee with Zameer as chair and Iruthisham among new members

Newly appointed Foreign Minister Iruthisham and Finance Minister Moosa Zameer: They have been appointed to the War Committee of this government and Zameer has been given the chairmanship of the ministerial committee.

Finance Minister Moosa Zameer has been appointed chairman of the committee of ministers set up by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to take necessary measures to mitigate the impact from the war between Iran, Israel and the United States in the Middle East.

The committee, which was set up in late February, was then chaired by former Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel.

The committee also included former Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, former Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, former Higher Education Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan.

However, Khaleel, Ghassan, Thoriq and Haidar resigned on Tuesday and are no longer on the committee. Ihusaan and Shaheem have also been removed from the committee.

In addition to Zameer, the committee currently includes:  

  • Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam  

  • Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed  

  • Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam  

  • Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen

Ten ministers, including Khaleel, Ghassan, Thoriq and Haidar, resigned on Tuesday. In addition to these four, the ministers who resigned are:  

  • Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim  

  • Social and Family Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham  

  • Minister of Languages Adam Naseer Ibrahim  

  • Minister of Agriculture Dr. Mariyam Mariya  

  • Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed  

  • Cities and Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar

The President’s Office said the 10 resigned to allow for the positive changes the President wants to bring about to run the government “in accordance with the pulse of the people.”

Following their resignations, the number of ministries in the government has been reduced from 20 to 15 and new ministers have been appointed.

They include Culture Minister and former NSPA CEO Heena Waleed, Environment Minister and former Climate Change Envoy Ali Shareef, Defense Minister Hassan Rasheed and Health Minister Geela Ali.
