Re‑registration for the second round of the local council elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections will open tomorrow, the Elections Commission (EC) has announced.
EC Director Aminath Azeefa said re‑registration will open on Monday, April 13. She noted that the updated voters’ list, including individuals who have turned 18 as of April 18, has now been published.
“We will continue from where the last election was held. For example, those registered in Male', Hulhumale' and Vilimale' will remain registered in Male'. Those who wish to vote elsewhere will have the opportunity to re‑register,” she said.
The voters’ register for the second round, scheduled for Saturday, includes those listed in the final register for the April 4 election as well as newly eligible 18‑year‑olds. According to the EC, seven newly eligible voters fall within the five constituencies heading to a second round.

The second round will be held in five constituencies: the women’s seat in the B. Dhonfanu Council and the council seat for Dhandimagu in Fuvahmulah City. WDC elections will also be held in HA. Kelaa, HDh. Neykurendhoo and L. Maavah.
A second round is required in these constituencies because multiple candidates received an equal number of votes in the first round.
The EC said newly eligible voters will be registered at their permanent address.
