The Elections Commission (EC) on Monday said that the Adhaalath Party and the Maldives National Party (MNP) have not submitted their audit reports for last year.
According to the register of political parties, there are currently seven political parties in the Maldives. Of these, five parties submitted last year’s audit to the EC. They are the ruling PNC, the main opposition MDP, the Jumhoory Party (JP), the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), and the People’s National Front (PNF).
The deadline for submitting the report was May 20. Adhaalath and MNP have not submitted last year’s audit.
Adhaalath is the second‑largest political party in the country, with more than 74,000 members. The MDP follows with over 43,000 members.
Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s party, the PNF, has the fewest members among the seven parties, with 3,012 members.
With that, only four parties receive funding from this year’s budget. They are the PNC, the opposition MDP, the MDA, and the JP.
