Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has accused the government of neglecting basic public services, particularly healthcare, and said the public is now looking forward to electing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a campaign event, Azim criticised the administration’s policies and argued that its actions have not benefited the people. Highlighting what he described as failures in the health system, he said it is the President’s responsibility to ensure citizens receive essential medical care.

“Keeping people in good health is a major responsibility of the President of Maldives. But today, people are struggling without access to medicine, Aasandha, NSPA support, and they are suffering,” Azim said.

He added that despite the state holding extensive powers, including a supermajority in Parliament, full control of the government, and 14 of the 17 seats in the Male' City Council, it has been unable to deliver services effectively.

Azim further alleged that the government is attempting to silence public complaints instead of addressing them. He said it is a mistake to assume people can be misled, adding that citizens now desire change and are preparing to elect MDP candidates in response to the government’s actions.
