The Elections Commission (EC) has announced the recruitment of 77 employees to support preparations for the April local council elections and the referendum on merging presidential and parliamentary elections.
Maldivians will vote on April 4 to elect members of local councils and women’s development committees, while also deciding whether the two national elections should be combined into a single vote.
The EC said it is hiring staff on a contract basis to manage various election‑related functions. The positions include:
40 officers
26 senior officers
Two maintenance officers
Two logistics officers
One graphic designer
Five tech officers
One senior officer (photographer)
Contracts will remain in effect until the election and referendum processes are completed.
According to the EC, officers will receive a basic salary of MVR 4,465, a service allowance of MVR 1,500, and MVR 155 for each day of attendance. Senior officers will receive a basic salary of MVR 7,610 and MVR 170 per day.
Interested applicants must submit their forms to the EC reception or email [email protected] before 15:00 on Tuesday. Applicants submitting by email are required to call 3004472 to confirm receipt. All documents must be attached as a single file under 10 MB. Application forms are available at the EC reception and on the commission’s website.
Last year, the EC estimated that the council elections would cost MVR 80 million. The commission later said an additional MVR 20 million would be required if the referendum is held on the same day. The government has sought public views on merging the two national elections, arguing that combining them could reduce costs.
