Accidents across Male', the Sinamale' Bridge and the highway fell by 31 percent in the second week of this month compared to the first, according to police statistics released on Tuesday.
A total of 43 accidents were reported between 8–14 February, down from 63 incidents the previous week. Police said Male' city roads accounted for 37 cases, making up the bulk of the week’s accidents.
The highest number of incidents in a single day was recorded on 8 February, with 10 accidents. Most accidents occurred during daytime hours.
Motorcycle‑related collisions were the most common, including seven motorcycle‑to‑motorcycle crashes and seven motorcycle‑to‑car crashes. Of the 43 reported cases, 41 resulted in minor injuries, while two accidents caused serious injury.
Police urged road users to remain alert, follow traffic rules and drive responsibly.
