The Ministry of Transport has announced restricted hours for transporting goods and operating heavy vehicles during the month of Ramadan.
According to the ministry, the movement of goods and heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 08:00 to 09:30 and 16:30 to 20:00 from the first day of Ramadan until the 19th.
Restrictions will also apply during the first seven days of Shawwal, from March 20–26, during which the transport of goods and operation of heavy vehicles will remain prohibited.
From the 20th of Ramadan onward, the ministry has imposed an additional restriction banning the movement of goods and heavy vehicles between 16:30 and 20:00.
The ministry stated that violators will be fined MVR 750 under the Road Traffic Act.
Traffic congestion typically intensifies in the Male' area during Ramadan, and the ministry noted that the restrictions are intended to ease road conditions during peak hours.
