The domestic terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) will be relocated to the former international terminal starting Tuesday, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has confirmed.

MACL told Sun on Monday that the old international terminal has been renovated to accommodate domestic operations. The company said the move will ease passenger flow and improve the travel experience for domestic passengers. However, MACL has not yet announced how the current domestic terminal will be used after the relocation.

Domestic flights in the Maldives are operated by Maldivian, Manta Air and Villa Air. The terminal is heavily used by Maldivians travelling between the capital and the atolls, as well as by a significant number of tourists.

The new international terminal at VIA opened on July 26 last year, with the capacity to handle 7.5 million passengers annually.
