The operator of Velana International Airport (VIA), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), states Sunday will be one of its busiest days this year.
The school holidays are currently in progress and align with the tourism peak season, resulting in many locals traveling overseas and a large number of tourists arriving in the Maldives for holidays.
An MACL official told Sun that VIA will serve approximately 22,000 passengers on Sunday. They include arrivals and departures –most notably, Maldivians traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah pilgrimage.
The official added that the airport is expected to be full until 14:00pm late afternoon.
As such, MACL has emphasized the importance of travelers arriving at the airport early to complete their check-in processes.
With tourism peak season underway, VIA’s apron is currently filled with aircrafts from various airlines and even private jets.
